SMOCK ANYONE?
Over the next few month’s I will be investing some well spent time giving hints and tips on how to dress for pregnancy. I think it’s true to say that most of us find the changes that occur to our body a difficult transition at times during that fist nine months, not least to say after your baby is born. Although there are many joys to being an expectant mum there are also some emotional roller-coaster times too, your changing looks can be one of them. No one can really prepare you for the feelings you have with an expanding waistline, changing boobs and not being able to reach your toes! So in a bid to introduce some positive feelings about our morphing body shapes, I hope to point out some backup ammunition to fight those pregnancy wardrobe blues!
Gone are the days when being pregnant meant wearing anything loose and shape-less. In some ways we are spoilt for choice now with so many high street brands opting to do a maternity range of clothing. Previously they didn’t do this and we were left with little choice but in a larger size! I know I have opted for this in the past, but sometimes it can be a bit tricky to find the more sophisticated pieces too. Many shops are waking up to the fact that pregnant women want maternity clothes to be stylish and supportive. There's never been a better time to be pregnant, so go ahead and make some wise investments in some key pieces of maternity wear.
There are several key things to keep in mind while your body is changing and you are looking for maternity wear.
1. Wear what is comfortable
2. You don't necessarily need maternity clothes from day one of your pregnancy. For the first few months, you can continue wearing loose fitting clothes or even larger sizes {example, your partner's shirts etc.}.
3. A belly belt is a great way of turning your favourite pre-pregnancy clothes into inexpensive and trendy maternity wear!
4. Don't do all your maternity wear shopping in one go - shop intelligently for your growing shape.
5. It may be wise to invest in loose/front opening T-shirts, tops and nightdresses that can also be worn after the birth.
6. Try to select dresses made of cotton or other natural fibres as you tend to feel quite warm in pregnancy.
7. Try to mix 'n' match as much as possible. It is economical and also adds colour and variety to your wardrobe.
8. Make accessories an essential part of your wardrobe: Nice earrings, striking scarves etc. help to make you look and feel brighter.
9. Never wear under-wired bras when pregnant or breastfeeding
Lastly I think it is so important to TREAT yourself through your pregnancy, especially when your body is changing so so much. When you pamper yourself it makes you feel good, and I think we all need a little feel good factor through out pregnancy.
