So the party preparations are in full swing..

It's been a very busy few days at Baba Me HQ as we prepare for the big 5th Birthday parties on Saturday.

We are hoping to make Saturday a really really fun day for all of our customers. In store we have a whole host of festivities planned.

It all kicks of at 10am, with the first 5 customers each receiving a free bumgenius of their choice. Then at 11 am we have the first of our cloth nappies classes, hosted by the lovely Andreanne. There is going to be an AMAZING price on bumGenius in store that day - AMAZING.

At 12pm is the puppet story telling by Andrea. She has been practicising all week. As a mom of 5, Andrea is well used to telling stories!

At 1pm we have our babywearing class run by our babywearing expert Lesley Ann. Every person going to the babywearing class will receive a £10 voucher off their purchase of a carrier or a sling.

At 1.45pm we have our bumGenius cake, off course being blown out by Mr. Duracell. The Deputy Mayor of Newry and will be there - should be fun!
Balloons are being blown up as we speak and Andrea is trying to get some games together for the kids all day in the shop. So.... to win some bumGenius, tell us your best party games for children below.

Sounds like you're going to have a fab time!
We keep our party games short and simple, and make sure that everyone is involved. Pass The Parcel is a classic, but when you're not sure on numbers and you have to wrap 20 layers, it becomes somewhat tedious. So we've done pass the lucky dip box in the same way, just without having to wrap numerous layers (and wasting an awful lot of paper!), they take a dip into the treat box and find something. This can be used to get prizes at the end of other games aswell (chocolate coins are always a winner!)
The chocolate game - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_chocolate_game is always a winner with slightly older children, so much fun with a group of children (and adults!)

My sister makes the most fantastic parcels for passing. There is something in every layer.

My favourites for parties are:

Musical chairs
Musical statues
Pass the parcel
Pin the tail on the donkey
Piniata

The party game we've had the best success with is pin the tail on the donkey. The fun the kids have being spun around blindfolded and then trying to pin the tail on is hilarious.
The best bit though is when you take the blindfold off and the child see's the tail they stuck on is in fact sticking out of the donkeys eye or nose and they crack up laughing.

We give a prize to closest and the furthest tail and everyone else gets a little something too :)

The chocolate game. The children sit in a circle. In the middle of the circle you need a hat, scarf, gloves, chocolate, ( I put mine on a tray ) knife, and fork. The kids take it in turns to throw a dice. When someone gets a 6 they go into the middle, put on the hat, scarf & gloves and then use the knife & fork to cut up and eat the chocolate. While the child in the middle is doing this the dice continues to be thrown until someone else gets a 6. They then take the place in the middle.....
My sister, brother & myself loved this game at our birthday parties when we are kids. I have showed my 4 year old how to play it at Christmas with her cousins and she now can't wait till her party in a few weeks time!

I love pass the parcel, and pin the tail on the donkey. Its my son's first birthday party soon and that's the games I want him to grow up with, good old fashioned games! (Just to add we'll be holding off on the pin the tail until he's a wee bit older...)

Musical chairs was a favourite for both me and hubby. I think I liked the fact that sometimes people would fall off chairs (all very no no most of the time with H&S police around) or you'd end up sitting on someones lap. - boy I'm cruel!!!

When I was a child we played Bingo and my dad always called out the numbers, in those days you called your friends parents Mr or Mrs and so everyone would be shouting out "Line Mr Daly" or "House Mr Daly", he always made sure everyone got money for something during the game, and it was the all time favourite will all our friends who still talk about it even now!!

My 3 year old went to a her little friends party a couple of weeks back and they had all the traditional games which was so nice to see! My daughter esp liked pass the parcel, musical chairs and musical statues - though she won the pass the parcel game and gave the prize to the birthday girl which was so cute!

Musical mats...basically musical chairs but use small mats or cushions instead. It's great for younger kids that struggle to get on and off chairs :)
Hope you all have a great time at the party! :D

How about keeping the balloon in the air - but you can only use your nose (fun for adults too!!)

Musical Bumps is another, when the music stops sit down on your bottom, last one down is out.

Sleeping lions.. where they all lie down on the floor and pretend to sleep and someone goes around trying to disturb them by talking, saying something funny etc. you move your out.

As a kid i enjoyed a game (don't know the name) where a room was filled with several pieces of string wrapped around objects (table, chairs) as well as other bits of string. The ends were hanging outside, so you start off outside the room and untwist the string until you find the end.
And the 'bus game' as we called it. Name the 4 corners of the room (colours or numbers or cloth nappy types!) one child stands with their back turned so they can't see the corners 'the caller', when the music stops all the children choose a corner or 'bus station'. The caller says "the bus didn't stop at bus stop [names one of the corners]" and all the children at that stop are out. Continues until one child left.
Hoe you have fun.

I love all the old classics - musical bumps, musical statues, musical chairs (are you sensing a theme here?!) and of course pass the parcel. I organised and ran a charity 'big kids' party at my university a few years ago and we had a massive sit down game of pass the parcel in the students bar - great fun!

Designing your own cupcakes is always fun. (Hint: check that none of the children are gluten intolerant, diabetic etc before the party and cater for them appropriately so they aren't left out). Buy a few packs of cheap fairy cakes (supermarket own brand for example), some icing, food colourings, hundreds and thousands, chocolate chips, those little edible metallic beads, some chopped up fruit etc. Lay everything out and then the children can have fun decorating their own cupcake for the party. The best part is that they all win because they get to take their own cupcake home with them at the end!

Treasure Hunt! Hide little wrapped up pressies in the garden before everyone arrives. Then have a mass treasure hunt until everyone has got a present. I've even seen some Moms draw out treasure maps and the kids have to work as a team to find the hidden pressies! Works inside and outside :)
