Flip Nappies
Every now and again a product comes along which I say 'WOW' to. Admittedly not often, as I am very hard to impress these days. The amount of sales reps, manufacturers and distributors I have sent packing over the years will testify to this. But recently a couple of fab products came along that I think are just ground breaking. The first is the Flip nappy system from Cotton Babies, the others merit separate blogs so you will have to wait until tomorrow! I love Flip and think it will revolutionise the cloth nappy market, no in fact I will go further. I think it will revolutionise the nappy market.
Why? Well because I have been using cloth nappies since my daughter was born, over 12 years ago. The amount of people who have come up to me over the years and said “ yeah great concept but I just couldn't cope with the washing”, well lets just say it has been thousands. These are 'green' environmentally friendly people yet they have drawn the line at the thought of washing. And that's fine. I have never pushed or made anyone feel guilty about their choices, some people use cloth nappies, some don't, that's life.
Yet these are the people who will love and use Flip nappies. For those of you who have not heard about the new Flip nappy system (where have you been!), let me briefly introduce it to you. Flip nappies are made by Cotton Babies, the makers of the fabulous bumGenius reusable nappies. bumGenius nappies completely changed the reusable nappy market when they launched. Prior to bumGenius all that was readily available was very old fashioned two piece nappy systems, that came in a multitude of sizes that were bulky and very off putting. Then bumGenius was launched which was a breath of fresh air. They were simple, easy, just like disposables and were one size. Testament to their design and quality is not only their numerous gold awards, but also the fact that now three years after bumGenius launched they are the no.1 nappy wordlwide and every cloth manufacturer worth their salt have belatedly come out with similar style nappies. Now, unbelievably, those very clever people at Cotton Babies, have done it again.
Flip is a brand new flexible nappy system. It's a reusable nappy and a disposable nappy all in one. Its Organic yets its Stay Dry. Its want YOU WANT IT TO BE. Yep you, YOU CHOOSE. It is a one size cover which only needs changing once a day or when dirty, and can be washed with regular clothes. Inside this very clever cover you choose which insert to use. Want organic nappies? Fine use Flip with Flip Organic Insert. But want it stay dry at night, fine use the Flip system with the Flip stay dry inserts. Want cloth nappies but don't want to wash, then superb. Use Flip nappies with the bamboo Disposable Inserts (coming soon!). Flip is all about choice and lifestyles. Some people want only organic cloth, some people just want to dip their toe into the cloth nappy world, and sometimes some people want both. There were many times, when with four kids, washing was too much. I never took cloth on holiday, machines broke down, kids were ill, I was ill, husband was ill... many times I reluctantly had to resort to using disposables because cloth just did not suit me at that time. For all these occasions, and many more, Flip would have been perfect. I am almost upset now that my fourth child is now out of nappies as I would LOVE to try flip on him.
The most exciting part about the new Flip nappy system is the bamboo Disposable Inserts, made from bamboo and potato starch. Priced at £3.95 for a pack of 18, they are comparable with top brand disposables so are not overpriced like far too many eco-products. If we want to bring cloth nappies to the masses then Flip is the way forward. Somedie hard cloth nappy fans have reacted in horror at the thought of the leading cloth nappy brand bringing out disposable inserts. Yet off course, Cotton Babies, have not just brought out any old insert. No cup of crude oil in these. No taking 500 years to decompose. No nasty chemicals.
What is so clever about Flip is that it has combined the best of cloth nappies and eco- nappies to come up with what I think is the perfect nappy, or rather I should say system as it allows you to choose which insert to use to suit your personal circumstances. Then off course, to top it off, the outer can be used as a one size wrap on any cloth nappies. So all bases covered in one little cover!
So well done Cotton Babies, and wow, once again I think you will revolutionise the reusable nappy market!
