Easter family fun

What do you think of when you think of Easter? The Easter Bunny, Daffodils, Easter Eggs, Chocolate and fun family time. Easter is a very special time for christians to remember the death and ressurection of Jesus, but as we all know it is also a very special time to spend with your loved ones.

Easter for me reminds me of new life as spring marks the time for all the baby lambs and chicks to be born, the sun is finally awake and we can spend some time enjoying eachothers company.

Every Easter Sunday in my house as I grew up we went to mass bright and early in our best Easter attire and then we were allowed to choose our Easter egg (that chocolate treat that makes Lent a lot easier for most of us). Our whole family aunts, uncles, cousins and friends would all make our way to the stunning mourne mountains and there we rolled our egg down the hill and ran after it to see who's egg went the furthest, and hoping that it had been broken up but still in its foil. The little ones would paint hard boiled eggs in an array of colours and Mum would hide them all over the garden for our treasure hunt when we got home.

The rest of the week was very special as well as we visited the petting zoo to see all the new baby animals, made daisy chains with all the girls and watched the annual Easter Football match between all the men and boys in the family. The memories are beautiful and I still celebrate Easter in much the same way. Bit of a role reversal though.

I asked Andreanne who is from Québec to give us her memories of Easter from when she was young and wow it sounds magical! Traditionally in Québec, the father of the family and the children used to get water from a river before the sunrise. As it is believed that this water has special power. This water could heal sickness, protect the house and the family from dangers and bad spirits. It was important to collect the Easter water before the sunrise, otherwise the water would not be pure.

Some people still do it but she mostly would go to Church and invite all the family around to have a big brunch with ham and traditional food... Lots of people meet at a sugar house... and children eat chocolate eggs!

I hope that however you choose to spend your Easter that you too create some life long memories and have lots of fun!
